Our Ethical Heritage

In the 1970s our founder, Peter Simon, travelled overland to India, via Afghanistan, falling in love with the beautiful hand crafted clothes he discovered en route. Monsoon was born in 1973 out of a passion for these hand-block printed fabrics, made in villages using vegetable dyes. This passion is still evident today in the beautiful fabrics sold in our branches. In 1984, Accessorize evolved as an exciting and a strongly differentiated High Street concept for fashion. Today we have over 1000 Monsoon and Accessorize branches, with a presence in over 55 global markets. While much of our production has shifted to larger factories, we remain true to our roots and we still trade with some of our original suppliers. These relationships have helped generate jobs and develop local communities. We are very proud of our charity, The Monsoon Accessorize Trust which was founded in 1994 to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children and women in Asia. Monsoon Accessorize is also a founding member of the Ethical Trading Iniative (ETI) and was the first high street retailer to stock fairtrade cotton in all of its stores.

The Future

Our dedicated teams are committed to the continuing development of the Monsoon and Accessorize product ranges. We are currently expanding the company with lots of new store openings planned in the UK and Eire for 2010, combined with rapid expansion overseas. We have also recently relocated our head office to a prestigious purpose built building, developed to support the growth and development of our head office teams.
